Curriculum Framework:

Having offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program for more than 20 years, the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township is extending IB to all of its elementary and middle school students.  The Middle Years Program (MYP) is designed for all students in grades 6 through 10.  9th and 10th grade students at North Central High School will participate in years four and five of the program.

Providing a framework of teaching and learning, the MYP encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP aids students in making connections between what they do in the classroom and what they will do in the real world. Thus, the MYP fosters the development of the knowledge and skills that are essential for life in the 21st century.

The Middle Years Program (MYP) ensures that students participate in the wide variety of academic and elective courses offered at North Central High School.

Beginning in the 2015-16 school year, all 10th grade students will undertake an independent personal project to demonstrate the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the five years of the MYP.

Students are required to enroll in:

  •  One  language other than their native language
  •  Humanities class
  • Science class
  •  Mathematics class
  • English class

In either 9th or 10th grade students are required to enroll in:

  •  Performing Arts
  •  Visual Arts
  •  Physical Education
  •  Technology – technology is embedded in speech and health classes

The Personal Project

All 10th grade students are expected to participate in the personal project, the culminating project of the MYP years.  The key pieces of the personal project are the process journal documenting students’ process and progress over the course of their project, a final report and an exhibition during which students display and discuss the final product/outcome they have created. Both the process journal and the report can be completed in writing, as an audio entry or even as a film. Thus, students can choose to use a variety of mediums or just one.
