World Language Placement Exams

Dates

Wednesday, April 13, 2022.  Wednesday, April 20, 2022.  Wednesday April 27, 2022

Details

The World Language Department at North Central High School has set its dates for placement exams for incoming freshmen who are not currently attending a WT middle school. If the student has outside experience in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin or Spanish, and believe this experience equals more than one year of study, we encourage you to take a placement exam prior to registering for classes at North Central High School. We will be offering placement tests on the following dates:

Placement Test Considerations

  • If the middle school world language curriculum is the equivalent of at least two full middle school years, it is recommended that these students NOT take the placement exam and enroll in level II X of the respective language. Letter grades of C+ or below received in Grade 8 of the language disqualify the student for X placement/a weighted grade.
  • Families who prefer that the NCHS World Language Department determines language placement MUST schedule their sons/daughters for a placement exam.
  • The NCHS World Language Department offers six languages through level V. If a placement exam indicates level III or above, students will need to understand their four-year plan before being enrolled in III, IV, or V because it may affect their diploma or IB courses.

Students may register to take a placement test by emailing Graham Collins. In the correspondence, please include test date, language, and an requested time (please choose a 1:30, 2:00, 2:30 or 3:00 arrival time) for the student to be tested. You will then need to monitor your email for a response back from Mr. Collins with confirmation of your test date and time.

Parents and future NCHS Panthers, thank you so much for dedication to the learning of a World Language. We look forward to having you in our community and classrooms in the upcoming school year and beyond.
